Well, it’s been a few weeks now since I received my TPT2. And so far…I love it. So much that I barely use my Nexus 7 tablet anymore. I’ll spare everyone the boring unboxing since most people know how to open boxes and remove products from their cushioning and plastic wraps. At least I hope so since at least it doesn’t come in one of those plastic blister packs that require to wear protective equipment to keep from cutting yourself. Anyways, first impressions are that it works a lot better than what a lot of reviews say. The size is awesome and battery life is great. The setup was easy and the one great thing about the new Windows 8 is that once I signed in with my account, it automatically synced settings with my desktop. Some times this sucks, but once I configured what to sync, it just works…unlike other platforms that start with the letter “i” in lower case. There are a lot of aspects to review, let’s start with the Pen since it was one of the biggest selling points for me.
One of the things I was worried about was the pen accuracy especially towards the edges. For me the accuracy out of the box was pretty good and within a few millimeters. After, calibrating, the worse accuracy I got was at the top right corner which was just about 1mm off. Not too bad. I think a bigger problem was the pen itself. It’s great that it fits into the device but it is really small. It kinda feels like the old Palm type stylus. So I decided to get another pen that’s a normal size. I tried the Surface pen and it works great, but the button is too raised and close to the tip that I kept hitting it when writing. So I looked at the pen from the Samsung Slate 7 and it works really well, the eraser requires a bit more pressure than the Surface pen, but the button is in a better place. Oh and the eraser makes a big difference. I didn’t even recalibrate and the pen seems a bit more accurate. The real trick is the angle of the pen when you are holding it.
Well, that’s it for now, I’ll be adding additional reviews on the performance frequently in the next few weeks so stay tuned. BTW, I showed this to Vireak and guess what…He bought one too! Hahaha…but that’s for another post…maybe he can tell you the story!
